A lawmaker said the latest US National Security Strategy released on Monday indicates Washington aims to improve its relationship with Middle East governments to forge an anti-Iran regional coalition.

“In their new strategy, Americans intend to revive friendly ties with Middle East countries so they can push them to take collective action against our country,” he said.

Ardeshir Nourian, a member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the statement in a talk with ICANA on Friday.

The lawmaker said a series of failures in reshaping the region’s political landscape in the US favor has forced a change in Washington’s tactics.

The 55-page policy document reiterated US President Donald Trump’s campaign to turn the screws on Iran.

The document calls for the United States to foster development to make sure the Middle East is “not a safe haven or breeding ground for jihadist terrorists, not dominated by any power hostile to the United States, and that contributes to a stable global energy market”.
