An emergency meeting of the Palestinian Committee of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States is to be held in Tehran on Monday. Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani is to participate in the meeting and deliver a speech at the international event, Tasnim News Agency reported. In the meeting, participants will discuss the Palestinian issue and a recent decision taken by US President Donald Trump to declare Beit-ul-Moqaddas the capital of the occupying Israeli regime. Trump made the declaration despite warnings from around the world that the measure risks triggering a fresh wave of violence in the Middle East. In a speech at the White House on Dec. 6, Trump said his administration would also begin a years-long process of moving the US Embassy in Tel Aviv to the holy city. Palestinian leaders had previously warned the move would threaten the prospects of reaching a two-state solution. Israel has taken control of East Beit-ul-Moqaddas since the 1967 Middle East war. Under international law, the area is considered occupied territory.
