Lawmakers called on Muslim countries to immediately sever diplomatic ties with Israel and reduce their economic relations with the United States to the lowest level possible.

In a 235-strong statement, lawmakers condemned the recent US decision to recognize Beit-ul-Moqaddas as Israel’s capital, saying that “the move clearly demonstrates the fabricated nature of the Zionist regime that has to resort to a so-called superpower to have a Muslim land announced as its capital”, IRNA reported on Tuesday.

They also urged their colleagues in other Muslim parliaments to urge their respective governments to take appropriate measures in this regard.

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani called on Muslim countries on Monday “to take practical measures so that the US will not repeat such domineering behavior.”

US President Donald Trump declared last week that the US would recognize Quds as the Israeli capital, breaking the international consensus on one of the most sensitive issues in relations between Israel and Palestinians.

Palestinians consider the holy city as the capital of their state, and most countries consider East Beit-ul-Moqaddas, which Israel annexed after capturing it in 1967, to be occupied territory.
