The military chief said the recent US move to recognize Beit-ul-Moqaddas as Israel’s capital will lead to a “massive intifada [uprising]”.
“This decision shows how desperate the Zionists have become. It will only backfire and harm themselves,” Chairman of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri was quoted as saying by ISNA on Monday. US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he would recognize Quds as Israel’s capital and announced plans to relocate the US Embassy to the holy city.
Describing the Zionist regime as the root cause of all regional problems, General Baqeri said, “The solution to all of these problems is respecting the regional peoples’ opinions on how they would like their nations to be run.”
Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has proposed a “general referendum” as the only democratic way out of the decades-old Palestinian issue. “The proposal is that all those who have a legitimate stake in the territory of Palestine, including Muslims, Christians and Jews, should choose their own system of government in a general referendum,” he said in 2008.
