OIC Meeting on Beit-ul-Moqaddas in Istanbul

President Hassan Rouhani will travel to Turkey on Tuesday to participate in an emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to discuss the US recognition of Beit-ul-Moqaddas as the capital of Israel. "The president will deliver a speech at the meeting on the holy city of al-Quds (Jerusalem)," Vice-President for Communication and Information Affairs Parviz Ismaili said on his Twitter account on Sunday, IRNA reported.

Rouhani has described the US move "a new conspiracy facing the Muslim world" and has called on the OIC to take appropriate measures. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan holds the chairmanship of the bloc. He has called for the meeting of Muslim heads of state and government in Istanbul on Wednesday to discuss US President Donald Trump controversial decision.

Israel occupied East Beit-ul-Moqaddas during the 1967 Six-Day war. It annexed the area in 1980 and sees it as its exclusive domain. Under international law the area is considered as occupied territory.
