The first vice president said the ground is prepared for increased economic cooperation between Iran and Belarus.

In a meeting with Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei on Sunday, Es'haq Jahangiri said, "There is plenty of ground for joint economic cooperation which should be used to expand and boost relations." IRNA reported. Jahangiri said Iran and Belarus are both afflicted by western sanctions, adding, "Sanctions do not prevent a country from (pursuing) its objectives."

The official touched on the "cordial" relations between Tehran and Minsk and said, "Relations of the two states are growing both in political and economic spheres, and serious resolve is needed to further activate economic ties."

Makei, for his part, said the Belarusian government's policy toward Iran will not be affected by changing conditions, adding, "Belarus never reduces relations with its friends for the sake of the West."
