In a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei in Tehran on Saturday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called for expansion of economic ties between the two countries.
Zarif said, “Iranian private companies are ready to undertake projects in Belarus,” ISNA reported. He made a reference to “unjust” sanctions against Iran and Belarus and said, “The world community should not allow western countries to use sanctions as an instrument to pressure other countries.”
“The West should know that unjust sanctions which go against the international law are not considered a great achievement for them,” he added. Makei also said his country has always regarded Iran as one of its friends and supported Tehran’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
He noted that the level of bilateral economic ties between the two states has risen considerably, however, such growth was not in proportion to the high level of political ties between Tehran and Minsk. In addition, he said an economic Belarusian delegation will visit Iran and a joint economic committee will be established in the near future. The Belarusian official arrived in Tehran on Saturday for a two-day official visit.
