The vice president for legal affairs said on Saturday that the revised version of the civil rights charter, which has been prepared after receiving the views of academics and experts on the first draft of the document, was submitted to the presidential office so that a decision will be taken on the final wording of the charter and the process to obtain official approval for it.
Elham Aminzadeh said the government believes the civil rights charter should be based on the laws and religious values, should be inclusive and should be able to create a balance between civil, political and cultural rights, IRNA reported.
In addition, she said the purpose of drafting the charter is to prepare the ground for providing more efficient services to the public.
In his election campaigns, President Hassan Rouhani had pledged he would take measures to promote civil rights and liberties and implement social reforms if he came to power.
After Rouhani's election last year, the office of the vice president for legal affairs started drawing up the charter and invited experts to express their opinions on the initial draft of the document.
