Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Russia’s special envoy on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, held a meeting in Moscow on Tuesday.

Jaberi and Lavrentiev discussed the latest developments in the region and cooperation between the two countries to resolve the Syrian crisis, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Ansari, who is Iran’s senior negotiator at the international Astana talks on Syria peace, also held talks with Russian Deputy Minister of Defense Alexander Fomin.

They exchanged views on de-escalation zones and related documents the guarantor states, Iran, Russia and Turkey, are currently negotiating.

The seventh round of Syria peace talks brokered by Iran, Russia and Turkey was held in Astana on October 30 and 31.

The fourth edition of the talks in May produced a memorandum of understanding on de-escalation zones in Syria, sharply reducing fighting in the country.

Diplomatic efforts to end fighting in Syria gained momentum in 2017 with the announcement of a ceasefire in the Arab country in early January.
