Saudi Divisive Policies Detrimental to Region

Iran’s Foreign Ministry slammed on Saturday the “baseless” comments by the Saudi foreign minister against Tehran, saying such “ill-considered” policies would have serious repercussions for the region. “In an attempt to divert public attention from its destabilizing actions in the region, Saudi Arabia tries to distort realities,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi was quoted as saying by ISNA. “This is while regional countries are witnessing that after Yemen, Saudi divisive policies have now targeted Lebanon,” he said. In an interview with CNBC on Thursday, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir urged the international community to slap fresh sanctions on Iran, accusing it of supporting terrorism. “Saudi Arabia, the cradle of extremist thoughts and the incarnation of terrorist acts, which explicitly interferes in other regional countries’ affairs resorts to lies and accuses others of terrorism,” Qasemi said. Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri resigned while in Riyadh last week. There are conflicting reports about this unprecedented event, with some claiming that Hariri is being held there under house arrest.  Saudi Arabia has imposed a blockade against Qatar and is also waging a bloody war against Yemen, with a siege against the impoverished nation. It is leading a coalition of nine African and Middle East countries to reinstate the fugitive president Abd-Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, with the help of US and UK military personnel.
