New Finnish Ambassador to Iran Keijo Norvanto submitted his credentials to President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Saturday. The president highlighted the vast potentials for investment offered by the untapped Iranian market and called for increasing cooperation, particularly in tourism and technology sectors. Norvanto stressed the need for measures to accelerate the implementation of agreements previously signed between Tehran and Helsinki, President.ir reported. Finland's President Sauli Niinisto led a high-powered economic delegation to Tehran in October 2016, about nine months after a historic deal between Iran and major powers went into force to remove economic sanctions against Tehran in return for scaling down its nuclear program. During that trip, the two sides signed four memorandums of understanding in the absence of international sanctions to restore and boost bilateral ties in a wide range of domains, from energy and trade to forest management and communications technology. Rouhani said at the time that the visit by the Finnish counterpart marked the revival of bilateral relations and raised the prospect of lucrative trade and close cooperation on regional and international issues. Rouhani also received the credentials of the new Philippines Ambassador Wilfredo Santos, Tanzanian Ambassador Mubarak Nasser Mubarak and their Sri Lankan counterpart, Sharif Anis.
