    Larijani Meets CTBT Chief

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani met Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) Organization Lassina Zerbo on Monday on the sidelines of the annual assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.

Condemning US President Donald Trump’s decision last week to decertify Iran’s commitment to the 2015 nuclear deal, Larijani warned that Iran would quit the pact if it was deprived by the Trump administration of its rightful benefits from the international agreement.

“If we are denied benefits from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [as the deal is formally known] as a result of Trump’s wrongful conduct, we will reconsider our commitment to implementing it,” Larijani was quoted as saying by Tasnim News Agency.

The decertification decision came despite Tehran’s full compliance that has been repeatedly verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the sole oversight authority on Iran’s commitments.

Zerbo urged the parties to the historic accord to resist Trump’s attempts to torpedo it.

“JCPOA is the most important agreement reached in the past 10 years and all the parties should try to preserve it,” he said.
