Naval Flotilla Calls at Russia’s Makhachkala

An Iranian Navy’s flotilla on Saturday began a voyage to Russia’s coastal city of Makhachkala.

Speaking at a see-off ceremony in the northern port city of Bandar Anzali, Commander of the Navy’s Caspian fleet, Admiral Ahmad Reza Baqeri, said the flotilla comprises Damavand destroyer and Paykan missile-launching vessel, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He noted that conveying “the message of peace and friendship of the Iranian people and government” to Russia is the main goal of the mission.

Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari had announced on Friday that the naval flotilla would return to Iran after a three-day trip and following a one-day joint military exercise with the Russian Navy aimed at exchanging experiences and displaying the capabilities of Iranian Navy.

In July, a Russian naval flotilla held a joint exercise with Iran’s Navy in the Caspian Sea.

The Russian Makhachkala flotilla had berthed at Bandar Anzali for a three-day visit, as part of plans to boost military cooperation.
