Iran Outlines Response to New Trump Strategy

Just hours before US President Donald Trump's speech on the new US strategy on Tehran, the Foreign Ministry outlined Iran's response measures.

Trump is expected to say that he will not certify the Iran nuclear deal and lay out a broad strategy on how to counter Iran's ballistic missile program and regional activities.

In a Friday statement carried by IRNA, the Foreign Ministry stressed that the Islamic Republic will "seriously" pursue its plan to bolster its defense capability and that any decision in this regard will be made "only based on national security considerations and national interests."

Trump is also expected to call for action to constrain Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.

The Foreign Ministry underlined that "any move against Iranian armed forces, including the IRGC, will meet Iran's proportionate and firm reaction."

On the US failure to fulfill its obligations under the nuclear accord, the statement said, "Iran has a wide range of options and if the need arises, it is even ready to stop implementing all its commitments [under the deal]."
