President Hassan Rouhani said Iran has prioritized expansion of relations with Tanzania, adding that it would give Iran an opening to enter East African markets. Rouhani made the statement in a meeting with Tanzanian Foreign Minister Augustine Mahiga in Tehran on Wednesday, President.ir reported. Rouhani said economic cooperation between the two countries should become as close as their political relations, and the first step on the path is "strengthening monetary, financial and banking relations". Mahiga said Dodoma is keen on building up trade with Tehran and the Tanzanian government welcomes Iranian firms willing to undertake development projects in the African country. The top Tanzanian diplomat also invited Rouhani to pay an official visit to his country. Earlier on Wednesday, Mahiga sat down with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, to discuss ways of developing bilateral relations.
