A naval flotilla from the Azerbaijan Republic has docked at Iran’s northern port city of Bandar Anzali to make a friendly visit for the first time in the history of bilateral relations. Azerbaijan’s “peace and friendship” flotilla, which consists of a Stenka-class G124 patrol boat under the command of Subhan Bakirov, the lieutenant commander of Azerbaijan’s Navy, berthed at the port late on Thursday for a three-day visit, Tasnim News Agency reported. During their trip, the Azeri naval forces were to meet local Iranian officials to discuss collaboration among the littoral states of the Caspian Sea. Russia and Kazakhstan have already dispatched five and one fleets, respectively, to Bandar Anzali as part of efforts to boost international cooperation among the Caspian states. The Iranian Navy has also sent five flotillas to the littoral states to convey the Islamic Republic’s message of peace and friendship, as well as promote security in the region.
