Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani says members of the Expediency Council should draw up the general policies on elections based on the “country’s long-term interests,” emphasizing that “factionalist and political views” should not affect policymaking. The chairman of the Expediency Council made the remarks during a meeting of the council on Saturday, IRNA reported. He highlighted the role of people in democratic elections in the Islamic Republic and said the council has been assigned a “historic” and “important” task to draw up the general policies on elections.
