The Leader of Islamic Revolution said the "totally fabricated" anti-Iran claims by US President Donald Trump in his UN speech did not stem from a sense of power, but they were due to Washington's rage over Tehran's role in disrupting years-long US designs in West Asia.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the statement in a meeting on Thursday with members of the Assembly of Experts, which is in charge of selecting the Leader and overseeing his performance, Leader.ir reported.

Trump, whose deeply antagonistic stance toward Iran has given rise to tensions between the two countries, delivered a scathing verbal attack against Iran in his maiden speech to the UN General Assembly's meeting of world leaders on Tuesday.

The controversial president went berserk as he raved and ranted that the Islamic Republic is a "corrupt dictatorship", "murderous regime" and an "economically depleted rogue state whose chief exports are violence, bloodshed and chaos" undermining peace in the Middle East.

He also called the nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers, including the US, an "embarrassment" for Washington in total contrast with other signatories to the deal (France, the UK, Germany, Russia and China).

The Leader said the statements were not a source of pride for the American nation and the US elite should be ashamed of having such a president.

   Hideous Speech

Ayatollah Khamenei said the reason behind the fiery attacks on Iran by its adversaries is the incremental progress of the Islamic Republic in the regional and global arenas.

"That foolish, extremely ugly and hideous speech by the US president, with its gangster and cowboy language fraught with sheer lies, stems from their fury, frustration and light-headedness," he said.

The Leader said the US government has had long-term plans to create the so-called "New Middle East", under with the three strategic countries of Iraq, Syria and Lebanon were to be drawn into the US orbit.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the US has failed to advance its agenda in the region, but realities in the region are so different from what it desires to be.

"They could not manage to accomplish anything in Lebanon. In Iraq, what has happened is exactly the opposite of what they wanted. In Syria, despite ... the extensive US support for takfiri terrorist groups, Daesh [the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group] is on the verge of collapse and groups such as the al-Nusra Front are isolated," he said.

"The presence and influence of Iran caused the plans of the US and the Zionist regime [of Israel] in the region to fail, and that has caused great anguish," he said.
