Defense Minister Amir Hatami said a joint committee will be set up with the police to tighten security along borders. In an interview with ICANA on Saturday, Hatami said the Defense Ministry and the police have agreed to form a committee to devise plans to strengthen border control. Describing plans to boost border security as one of his major objectives, Hatami said the Defense Ministry would offer help by providing drone units, radars and optical military equipment. The Iranian Border Police, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Ground Force and the Army's Ground Force are tasked with protecting Iran's land borders. Iran shares over 6,000 kilometers of land borders with Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Iraq.
