The Chinese lead negotiator expressed hope that Beijing’s nuclear proposal would help narrow wide differences in the negotiating positions in the talks between Iran and the major powers and make it easier for them to reach a comprehensive agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program.

Wang Qun said China put forward the proposal in the most recent round of nuclear talks, without giving further details. He also said the talks were “tense, realistic, fruitful and acceptable,” IRNA reported on Friday citing the Chinese media.

The talks between political directors of Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) were held in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday.

Wang said, “Fortunately, the negotiating parties seized the opportunity to reach some common ground which is gratifying.” He pointed out that efforts to bring views closer together and bridge differences can definitely help Iran and the P5+1 achieve a “desirable result”.

The Chinese official called on the negotiating parties to make the required decisions so that the talks can reach a conclusion in the near future. The Geneva meeting was the first round of talks after the two sides agreed last month to extend the negotiations for seven more months.
