The Algerian president said the criminal actions of extremist groups are meant to tarnish the image of Islam.

In a meeting with Ambassador to Algiers Reza Ameri on late Wednesday, Abdelaziz Bouteflika touched on the threat of extremism and terrorism and said, “The actions of extremist and terrorist groups are aimed at marring the image of Islam and Muslims,” IRNA reported.

Receiving the ambassador’s credentials, Bouteflika wished success for him and highlighted his resolve to help expand relations with Tehran in all fields.

He praised the good relations between the two countries and said, “Anything which causes damage to the Islamic Republic of Iran, in fact, harms Algeria and vice versa.”

He sent his best regards for the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani and called for greater cooperation in various spheres.

The ambassador, for his part, elaborated on Iran’s stance on the latest regional and international developments and said Iranian officials are prepared to take measures to help strengthen bilateral relations to meet the demands of the two states’ leaders for enhanced ties.
