Rouhani in Astana for OIC Summit

President Hassan Rouhani headed for Astana, Kazakhstan, on Saturday to attend the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Summit on Science and Technology to be held on Sept. 10 and 11.

The president will deliver a speech to the summit where he is scheduled to meet his Kazakh counterpart, ISNA reported deputy presidential chief of staff for communications and information, Parviz Esmaeili, as saying.

Esmaeili said Rouhani is also scheduled to hold talks with leaders of Muslim countries on the sidelines of the two-day event. This is the first-ever OIC summit in the field of science and technology.

Apart from Muslim countries’ delegations, notables in the fields of science and culture as well as representatives of international organizations will also take part in the meeting. The gathering is expected to discuss and adopt OIC’s 10-year action plan on science and technology, dubbed “OIC Science, Technology and Innovation Agenda 2026.”
