Greetings to Syria on Deir Al-Zor Victory

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani congratulated the Syrian government, nation and military forces on breaking the three-year siege imposed by the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group on a government enclave in the eastern city of Deir al-Zor. In a message on Wednesday, Larijani hailed Syria’s military gains against IS as the fulfillment of God’s pledge that righteousness will overcome wickedness, Tasnim News Agency reported. “The end to the siege of Deir al-Zor, gained through unity among the Syrian Army and resistance forces, marked a big defeat for terrorism and extremism,” he said. The top lawmaker expressed hope that all Syrian territories would soon be rid of terrorists and that calm and order will once again prevail across Syria. On Tuesday, the Syrian troops and allied forces broke the siege. They had been advancing toward the city on several fronts in recent weeks, and on Tuesday reached the western outskirts of the city after IS defenses collapsed. The advancing forces joined up with fellow soldiers at the previously encircled government-held airbase known as Brigade 137 on the city’s western edge.
