Ways of Boosting Defense Power Discussed

New Defense Minister Lieutenant General Amir Hatami and Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari met in Tehran on Monday to discuss ways of boosting the country’s defense capabilities. Hatami emphasized that his ministry will use all its capacities to continue boosting the country’s defensive capabilities and fulfill the armed forces’ requirements, Tasnim News Agency reported. “The Defense Ministry will make every effort to keep upgrading the defensive capabilities of all units of the armed forces, the IRGC in particular, in the areas of modern and strategic systems and equipment,” he said. Hatami said enhanced cooperation among different units of the armed forces could help improve the country’s defensive might. The IRGC chief stressed the importance of stepping up efforts to bolster the deterrent strength to counter potential threats in the future. Hatami replaced Lieutenant General Hossein Dehqan as defense minister in President Hassan Rouhani’s second-term Cabinet.
