The deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs said on late Tuesday that Tehran and Moscow will seriously pursue their common strategy to support Syria and Iraq against terrorists. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for the Middle East Mikhail Bogdanov in Moscow, Fars news agency reported. “Tehran and Moscow will actively assist Iraq and Syria in their campaign against terrorism and Daesh (the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria),” he said. He said Iran and Russia believe in a “political solution” to the Syrian crisis, adding that the Syrian people should “determine their political future.” Elsewhere, he criticized the US-led coalition against the Islamic State and said the United States is not serious in its campaign against the terrorist group, while Russia is really backing Iraq and Syria in their fight against terrorism.
