Ebrahim Yazdi, a senior Iranian politician and former foreign minister in the Islamic Republic's interim government in 1979, passed away at the age of 86. He died late Sunday in Izmir, Turkey, where he underwent surgery. His body would be transferred to Iran for burial in the coming days, ISNA reported. Yazdi was one of the close advisors of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, when he went into exile to Neauphle-le-Chateau in the Parisian suburb in 1978. In a message, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif extended his condolences to his family and described him a prominent figure in the country's anti-monarchy struggles before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
