Moscow’s military cooperation with Tehran is not in violation of UN Security Council resolutions, the head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation said.

“We are strictly adhering to all international commitments we have undertaken. We have documents adopted by the United Nations and all subsequent decrees of the country’s [Russia] leadership. This concerns both Libya and Iran,” Dmitry Shugaev was also quoted as saying by Sputnik on Monday.

Shugaev added that Iran and Russia are now in talks over the maintenance of the Russian-made S-300 air defense missile system. Iran took delivery of the S-300 system missiles in July 2016. In March 2017, during a wargame dubbed Damavand, Iran’s air defense forces conducted a successful test of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system. The system can detect 20 targets simultaneously and directly engage with 12 separate hostile flying objects, including missiles, fighter jets or helicopters.
