Caspian Security Discussed With Russia

High-ranking Iranian and Russian naval officials discussed ways of safeguarding security in the Caspian Sea through cooperation with littoral states.

Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, who was in Indonesia at the head of a delegation to attend the Third International Maritime Security Symposium, held talks with a top Russian naval delegation on Saturday, Press TV reported.

“We believe that the Caspian Sea is the sea of peace and friendship, and there is no need for foreign intervention to establish security in this sea,” Sayyari said.

The Iranian navy commander noted that the littoral states are capable of maintaining their security.

The top Iranian and Russian naval officials stressed the importance of developing mutual cooperation, particularly in naval, training and technical fields.

During his stay in Indonesia, Sayyari also met with high-ranking naval delegations from Indonesia, Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan and Thailand.
