Chairman of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said the programs confining the military forces to pure training and wargames are not sufficient to prepare the soldiers, calling for “direct engagement” in practical fields, like on the frontier or international battlefields where Iran is extending advisory services. Mere reliance on military training and holding exercises would not satisfy the needs of the armed forces, Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said in a military ceremony in Tehran on Saturday, Tasnim News Agency reported. “There should be direct engagement in the battlefield and face-off with the enemy to prepare the forces,” he said, adding that to this end, the Iranian Army and Air Defense forces need to boost their capabilities at the borders and the fronts where the Islamic Revolution is active.

Iranian military advisors are supporting Iraq and Syria in their battles against terrorists. Baqeri also warned of the high costs of a military assault against Iran, saying the enemies have come to the conclusion that a military attack on Iran would result in a “humiliating defeat” and heavy casualties for them.
