Defense Chief Pledges Full Support for IRGC

New Defense Minister Amir Hatami underlined his ministry's commitment to support the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps in various military spheres, including missile development and air defense. The Defense Ministry will throw its weight behind "the axis of resistance", particularly Commander of the IRGC Quds Force Major General Qasem Soleimani, the new minister said in a ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday, Tasnim News Agency reported. He stressed that the ministry will continue to extend full support to IRGC, the Army and the police in various areas, such as air defense, missile industry, naval programs and border control. The general added that he has devised programs to boost the country's defense power during his four-year term. Hatami has replaced Lieutenant General Hossein Dehqan after winning the highest number of "yes" votes from parliamentarians among President Hassan Rouhani's proposed ministers for his second term.
