The Leader of Islamic Revolution appointed former defense minister, Lieutenant General Hossein Dehqan, as his advisor on defense affairs. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, made the appointment in a decree issued on Monday, which was posted on his official website. In the decree, the Leader called on Dehqan to constantly monitor researches in the defense sector and come up with proposals to upgrade Iran's defense capabilities. Dehqan served as defense chief for four years under the recently reelected President Hassan Rouhani. In Rouhani's second-term Cabinet, Dehqan has been replaced by Lieutenant General Amir Hatami.
