Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei praised the recently martyred soldier Mohsen Hojaji for his courage and uncompromising devotion to duty and the revolutionary values of the Islamic Republic.

Hojaji, who was among the Iranian troops on an advisory mission to war-ravaged Syria, was beheaded by the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group on August 9, after being held captive for two days.

The IS released a photo of him before the execution, as well as a video.

Speaking in a meeting with cultural officials from Hamedan and Yazd provinces on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei underscored the importance of promoting the revolutionary spirit.

“Cultural authorities are duty-bound to support and foster revolutionary morale in various environments,” the Leader was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.

Iran has been involved in the Syria war, now in its sixth year, at the request of President Bashar al-Assad’s government to provide military consultations to his troops in their fight against armed insurgent groups seeking Assad’s ouster.
