Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Force announced plans to build up the force’s artillery capabilities.

Speaking at a military base in the central city of Isfahan on Saturday, Lieutenant General Kioumars Heydari said the Ground Force is trying to improve its artillery combat capabilities in view of “regional threats”, Tasnim News Agency reported.

“The Ground Force has also devised plans to strengthen its helicopter units,” he noted.

According to the commander, the Ground Force has already improved its combat capabilities by establishing rapid-response units and boosting the mobility of assault forces.

In late July, Heydari said the Ground Force’s infantry units had undergone structural reforms, noting that all brigades had developed into “assault and mobile” ones. He said 21 mobile assault brigades were established in the Ground Force, describing the scheme as part of efforts to carry out the orders of the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
