Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has expressed concern over the growth of terrorist groups in Muslim countries and efforts by some extremists in the country to provoke sectarian division and said if “religious extremism” is not curbed, other groups similar to the so-called Islamic State will emerge.
Extremist groups are “the best tool for the enemies of Islam to promote Islamophobia,” IRNA quoted the chairman of the Expediency Council as saying in a meeting with members of the United Front of Moderates of Islamic Iran in Tehran on Monday. Elsewhere, Rafsanjani said, “Those who left behind the worst situation as their legacy for the (current) government expect people to fall for their extremist slogans.”
