In a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi and Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Ali Shamkhani discussed the latest developments in the region and the ways to expand bilateral cooperation, Fars news agency reported.

Halqi said the Syrian government is resolved to fight against the terrorists operating in the crisis-hit Arab country.

He said, "The Syrian government's resolve to combat the terrorists across its territory is invincible, and if foreign intervention and support be stopped, we would soon witness complete annihilation of terrorists."

Shamkhani, for his part, praised the resistance of the Syrian nation and government against terrorists and expressed satisfaction with the recent victories of the Syrian army and volunteer forces in their anti-terror fight.

The SNSC secretary referred to the recent Israeli airstrikes against targets in Syria and said, "The recent acts of aggression by the Zionist regime against Syrian territory violated the national sovereignty and security of the country and were committed to hearten terrorist groups."

"The UN Security Council and the world's countries should give a firm response to such hostilities to prevent the repetition of such actions," he added.
