Chairman of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Wednesday.
The agenda included “bilateral defense relations, regional developments, counter terrorism and border issues,” ISNA reported.
The senior commander met with his Turkish counterpart, General Hulusi Akar, in Ankara on Tuesday.
This is the first time that a chairman of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces has visited Turkey.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told the TRT Haber news channel on Wednesday that the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov will visit Ankara to discuss the Syrian crisis.
Iran, Russia, and Turkey have forged an alliance that has been able to bring the disputing sides in the six-year Syrian war to the negotiating table.
Known as the Astana peace process, the initiative has carved out four de-escalation zones in the war-ravaged Arab country to facilitate the provision of badly needed aid and basic necessities.
