Two Vice Presidents Announced

President Hassan Rouhani appointed two members of the Cabinet on Sunday. Isa Kalantari is appointed to lead the Department of Environment and Ali Asghar Mounesan will head Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.

The announcement was made on the government’s official portal, Dolat.ir. Replacing  Massoumeh Ebtekar in the new Cabinet, Kalantari, 65, is a veteran politician who served as agriculture minister under the late president, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani . He has been leading efforts to revive Urmia Lake since 2013, serving as director of the Urmia Lake Restoration Program.

He will also serve as a vice president in his capacity as DOE chief. Mounesan, 47, has served as the head of Kish Free Zone Organization since 2013 when Rouhani’s first term in office began. He replaces Zahra Ahmadipour who took the reins of the organization only nine months ago.

In his capacity as ICHHTO chief, Mounesan will also double as vice president.
