Chairman of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri will lead a high-level military-political delegation to Turkey at the invitation of his counterpart, Hulusi Akar, in the near future. Baqeri will meet top-level military officials of the neighboring country during the three-day visit to discuss the latest developments in the region and ways to boost defense and border cooperation, IRNA reported on Sunday, without specifying the date of the trip. Iran and Turkey joined Russia late last year to revive the Syria peace negotiations aimed at settling a six-year-old conflict raging in the Arab country. They have so far held five rounds of talks in the Kazakh capital Astana and the sixth is scheduled for early September. Moscow and Tehran back Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces in their fight against armed rebel groups that have relied on backing from Ankara and its western and regional allies to topple Assad's government.
