Hands at Work to Divide Region

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and the head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Kamal Kharrazi, warned of conspiracies hatched by the US and Israel to partition Iraq and Syria. In the meeting in Tehran on Sunday, Berri said that in southern Syria, Israel and the US are "hatching a plot to divide Syria", Tasnim News Agency reported.  He described the Israeli regime as "the biggest sponsor of terrorism". The Lebanese speaker expressed concern that Syria has become a playground for the rivalry of big powers. Kharrazi underlined unity among all religious and ethnic groups, and acknowledged Berri's remarks about US-Israeli plots. "Regional nations and governments should be vigilant, since the disintegration of Syria and Iraq is among their regional goals," he said. Berri and Kharrazi also discussed the latest developments in Lebanon. Kharrazi congratulated recent victories achieved by the Lebanese Army and Hezbollah resistance movement in fighting terrorism, including the liberation of Arsal region. The Lebanese Parliament speaker visited Tehran to attend President Hassan Rouhani's inauguration ceremony on Saturday.
