Iran’s Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin held a meeting in Tehran on Saturday. The two officials discussed bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional and international developments. The two sides met on the sidelines of President Hassan Rouhani’s inauguration for a second term held at the parliament on Saturday, Tasnim News Agency reported. Dehqan and Rogozin also reviewed previous military agreements between the two countries and underlined the need for their prompt implementation.

Before the meeting, an informed source told Sputnik, “Rogozin will meet Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan to discuss several matters, including new supplies of Russian arms,” adding that the parties “have reached a tentative agreement to increase military and technical and technological cooperation after both countries have been included in the [US] sanctions list.”

The source also said the Russian delegation would work on the possibility of signing new deals.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed into law a bill overwhelmingly passed by Congress to impose new sanctions on Iran and Russia.
