A lawmaker said the US is provoking Iran to quit the 2015 nuclear accord with world powers, but the Islamic Republic will not withdraw from the deal. “It’s a conspiracy of the Americans who want to pressure [Iran] to pull out of the JCPOA and pay the cost of stopping it,” Hossein Naqavi Hosseini also said on Saturday using the official title of the deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Press TV reported. On Thursday, the US Senate approved new sanctions against Tehran over its missile program and regional activities. Iranian officials believe the sanctions measure is in violation of the agreement. Tensions have mounted between Washington and Tehran, which severed diplomatic ties after Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, since President Donald Trump took office in January. In order to appease its regional allies Israel and Saudi Arabia, Trump is ratcheting up pressure on Iran on baseless grounds. Naqavi Hosseini said the Americans continue to treat Iran with “enmity, spite and hostility” despite the nuclear pact. “The Americans have become more emboldened after the JCPOA and their hostilities have increased,” he said.
