The EU foreign policy chief said the 2015 Iran nuclear deal was achieved through the contribution of the global community and the result of this collective process has made the world more secure.
"Cooperative solutions may be difficult and even painful to achieve, but the outcome is always better, stronger and more sustainable through time," she said.
"The Iran deal is an example of how the European Union invests in building peace through multilateralism," Federica Mogherini said upon receiving the 2016 Hessian Peace Prize in Brussels on Wednesday, the website of the European External Action Service reported.
Mogherini was awarded the prize for her role as one of the negotiators and coordinators of the nuclear settlement with Iran.
"The deal has made the whole world more secure: It halted the risk of a new and more devastating conflict, and opened new opportunities for cooperation," she said.
