Islamic Revolution Guards Corps foiled a terror attack in a border area in the northwest, killing four terrorists and injuring three others on Thursday.
IRGC forces engaged the terrorists linked with “world arrogant powers” and enlisted by foreign spy services as they were about to carry out a terror operation, IRNA reported an IRGC statement as saying.
During the clash, one IRGC member was also martyred and another was wounded.
One terrorist was detained and the remaining fled to the other side of the border, the statement said, without elaborating further.
Northwest of Iran is a Kurdish area bordering Iraq and Turkey, where Kurdish militants affiliated with Party for Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK) occasionally conduct deadly operations.
PJAK is an offshoot of the internationally-recognized terrorist group, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
