Ayatollah Jannati Reelected GC Chairman

Members of the Guardians Council reelected Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati as their chairman for another year. Abassali Kadkhodaei, the council's spokesman, made the announcement after their meeting on Wednesday, IRNA reported. The high-ranking cleric has headed the 12-member council since 1992, which is tasked with vetting the compliance of legislation approved by the parliament with Islamic law and the Iranian Constitution, as well as approving the qualification of candidates in elections. Last year, Ayatollah Jannati was also appointed as the chairman of Assembly of Experts that appoints the Leader and oversees his performance.
