Deputy Army Commander Lieutenant General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan praised a recent missile attack by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps against terrorists in Syria as "a firm response" to reactionary countries. Speaking to Tasnim News Agency in a recent talk, Pourdastan said the IRGC's missile attack on the positions of the self-styled Islamic State militant group in Syria was a response to terrorists and those who are daydreaming about threatening and invading Iran. "The IRGC's missile operation was also a strong and firm response to the false remarks made by the reactionary countries' leaders [an implicit reference to Saudi Arabia and its three allies]," he said. In an operation on June 18, the IRGC fired six mid-range ballistic missiles at various targets, including the headquarters, ammunition and logistic depots of the terrorists in Syria's Deir al-Zor Province. It was a response to the IS-claimed attacks by gunmen on the Iranian Parliament and the Mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in Tehran on June 7, killing 18 people and wounding over 50.
