President Hassan Rouhani has censured the “siege” of Qatar by four Arab states that recently cut ties with Doha, saying Iran’s air, land and sea routes are always open to the Arab country.
In a phone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Sunday, Rouhani offered his congratulations on the religious festival of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, Tasnim New Agency reported.
He pointed to the ongoing Arab crisis and said, “The siege of Qatar is not acceptable.”
Tehran stands with the Qatari people, the president stressed, adding that the Islamic Republic believes that when disagreements emerge in the region, resorting to pressure, threat or sanctions is not “the right way” to resolve them.
The Qatari emir extended his congratulations on Eid al-Fitr, and said, “Qatar has open arms for interaction and cooperation. Relations between Iran and Qatar have always been strong and developing.”
Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic ties and all land, sea and air contacts with the tiny emirate, accusing the country of supporting terrorism and interfering in their internal affairs.
