Larijani Addresses Eurasia Meeting

Iran’s potential and its geopolitical proximity enable it to play a bigger role in stimulating development of Eurasia and  contribute to sustainable security in the region, a lawmaker said. 

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani made the remark in an address to his counterparts from 25 Asian and European countries in the second meeting of parliament speakers of Eurasian countries in the South Korean capital Seoul on Tuesday, IRNA reported. The senior lawmaker said Iran’s vast energy resources, secure and efficient transport routes and experience in fighting terrorism and organized crime can help enhance Eurasian convergence and encourage multilateral cooperation.

“Cooperation in education, transit infrastructure, environment, industrial investment and security challenges can be top priorities of this body”, he said. 

Larijani announced Tehran’s readiness to host the next meeting of Eurasian parliament speakers.  

The first edition of the conference was held in Moscow in April 2016. Larijani traveled to South Korea on Monday to attend the 3-day conference on cooperation for Eurasian prosperity.

The annual conference is to conclude with a joint declaration on Thursday.
