Leader Visits Senior Cleric at Tehran Hospital

Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei visited senior cleric Ayatollah Hossein Mazaheri in a hospital in Tehran on Saturday. The Leader was briefed on the ayatollah’s health condition and prayed for his recovery, according to the Leader’s official website. Ayatollah Mazaheri was hospitalized due to an unannounced health problem last Monday and underwent surgery. Born in 1934, the ayatollah is a marja taqlid (a high-ranking Shia cleric who is regarded as a source of emulation) who currently heads the Isfahan School of Theology. He is a former member of the Assembly of Experts, a body in charge of appointing the Leader and overseeing his performance. President Hassan Rouhani also visited the cleric on Thursday.
