Iran’s recent missile strikes against the Islamic State group was intended as a “direct” message to terrorists and their sponsors and donors, namely Israel, the US and Saudi Arabia, a diplomat said.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps on Sunday fired six mid-range, Zolfaqar high-precision ballistic missiles on IS targets in the Syrian city of Deir al Zour, eliminating a significant number of terrorists, their HQs, ammunition and logistic depots, among others.
Commenting on IRGC’s move in a recent talk with Sputnik, Hossein Sheikholeslam said, “It is crystal clear that it is a message not only to terrorists but to their sponsors —Israel, the US and the ruling dynasty in Saudi Arabia— who, through the terrorists, have committed mass killings in the region.”
Sheikholeslam, a Foreign Ministry adviser and former ambassador to Syria, added, “Iran is determined to display its military might and deliver pinpoint blows to any location of terrorists. It is a message to all those who have committed and are still committing violence in the region.”
