President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, discussed over the phone bilateral relations and collaboration on ways to help end regional conflicts.

In their first contact since Rouhani's May 19 reelection, the two sides on Saturday talked about agreements made during Rouhani's late March visit to Moscow, which covers joint projects in the oil,  gas, transit and nuclear fields.

"Tehran supports broader cooperation on infrastructure and industrial projects and improved banking ties," Rouhani's official website quoted him as saying.

Rouhani said he is in favor of stronger interaction between  Iran, Russia and Syria to fight terrorist groups operating in the war-ravaged Arab country.

"All countries should mobilize for a real fight against terrorism and promote regional stability," he was quoted as saying.

Congratulating Rouhani on his election victory, Putin said "Russia is intent on building closer ties with Tehran in various fields."

Putin said the two sides will maintain close contacts over Middle East conflicts, stressing the need for increased joint efforts aimed at finding a political settlement to Syria crisis.

"We will stick to our efforts to promote peace in the region and in Syria."
